During the first three years of the ASCR X-Stack program, projects have completed research and development of programming models, programming environments, and runtime systems for Exascale. Significant advances for several DOE applications have been demonstrated. The fourth year of the program has started in September of 2015. The teams are extending results and expect to demonstrate additional benefits to the applications codes. Early feedback from facilities and applications will significantly help researchers deliver prototype software that facilities can install by the second semester of 2016. This meeting brings together the X-Stack researchers, the facilities teams, applications scientists and developers to discuss the evaluation process for the X-Stack software prototypes and identify further changes that are needed Description of the software stack projects to be discussed at this meeting is available in https://xstackwiki.modelado.org/Extreme_Scale_Software_Stack.
We will also discuss the future computer science research challenges related to programming languages, compilers, runtime system and tools that go beyond the currently envisioned exascale programming environments.
The meeting will take place on April 6-7 at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA. A draft agenda is posted (Updated March 30, 2016). The final agenda will be posted a few days before the meeting.
