Towards Exascale: High Performance Visualization and Analytics

This project focuses on a key set of problems facing our community as we move towards the exascale regime and respond to challenges resulting from ever-increasing amounts of scientific data from simulations and experiments. First, we aim to better understand how to effectively take advantage of an evolving architectural landscape where there are an increasing number of cores per processor, deepening memory hierarchies, and increasingly complex platforms. Second, we aim to increase scalability of methods of key algorithms and methods in response to growing data sizes and changing architectures. Third, we develop completely new visualization and analysis methods and approaches to meet the challenges and opportunities for scientific knowledge discovery. Together, advances in these three focus areas helps to provide traction on key challenges for both experimental and simulation science as we transition into the exascale era of computing.
