The goal of this project is to facilitate next-generation data analyses by developing new tools that make it easier to process large amounts of scientific data, helping researchers focus on their science, rather than on the process of conducting that science. Next generation scientific discoveries rely on analyzing the massive data that is generated at Department of Energy supercomputing centers and experimental facilities. The key to maximizing insight from data is the seamless interaction of the scientist’s knowledge with the large-scale machines and software that is required to process the data. Current approaches for designing supercomputers and associated tools focus on the hardware and software of the machine and do not consider the user. The handout provides a summary of our project goals and accomplishments to date.
